Overnight (1–2 nights) is strongly recommended—you experience sunset, kayaking, and quieter mornings among limestone karsts. Day trips are rushed and often crowded; choose a licensed, mid-range or boutique cruise over ultra-budget boats.

April–May and September–October usually offer clearer skies and milder temperatures. Winter can be cool and misty; summer may bring rain. Weather can change quickly on the water.

Most packages include transfers from Hanoi, meals as stated, cabin accommodation, and activities like kayaking or a cave visit. Check whether kayaking, drinks, tip, and private balcony cabins are included.

Both share similar karst scenery. Lan Ha (often via Cat Ba) can feel less crowded on some routes. Many quality itineraries explore quieter corners of the UNESCO area—ask your operator which islands and caves you will visit.

Choose licensed operators with good recent reviews and clear safety standards. Avoid suspiciously cheap deals. In rough weather, reputable companies may adjust routes or cancel for passenger safety.
