Private car takes about 5–6 hours. Overnight buses and train-to-Lao Cai plus transfer options also exist. Many travellers leave Hanoi in the evening and arrive for a morning trek.

Local guides add cultural context and help with village paths and weather changes. Short walks near town are possible independently, but overnight village treks are best with a licensed guide.

Ride the Fansipan cable car, visit ethnic markets, try a Dao herbal bath, or explore by motorbike with an experienced driver. Cloudy days still work for markets and cultural experiences.

Planting greens appear around May–June; golden harvest views are often best around September–October. Weather can turn quickly—pack a rain jacket year-round.

Evenings are cooler than the lowlands, and winters can be cold and foggy. Bring layers, especially November–February. Summer days are milder but rain is common.
